Sign In on Your Rig
On your own network, only one kind of rig asks you to sign in: a rig flashed with ARIS Rig OS, once it has an owner. It asks so that a stranger on the same Wi-Fi cannot drive your rig: slew the mount, delete your images, or move the rig to another network.
When a rig asks
Section titled “When a rig asks”A rig asks for sign-in on its own network only when both are true:
- It was flashed with ARIS Rig OS (see Install ARIS on Your Rig).
- It is claimed, that is, linked to an ARIS account. Turning on remote access claims it: Settings → Connection → Remote access → Enable remote access, then Claim to this account (see Pair for Remote Access).
From then on, every device that uses the rig on its network must be signed in with the account that claimed it. The device you claim the rig from is paired as part of the claim.
These rigs do not ask:
- A rig that is not claimed. A new rig stays open until you claim it, so a rig taken straight to a dark site with no internet can never lock you out.
- A rig you installed yourself with the setup script.
- A NINA rig.
Pair a device with your rig
Section titled “Pair a device with your rig”Each phone, tablet, computer app and browser pairs with the rig on its own, once.
-
Sign in to ARIS on the device with the account that claimed the rig: Settings → Account & Sync → Sign In / Create Account. In a browser at the rig’s own address, see sign in from the rig’s own address below.
-
Connect to the rig. ARIS pairs the device with the rig through ARIS’s servers, so the device and the rig both need internet this one time.
-
Wait up to a minute. The first time, ARIS says it paired this device with the rig and that the rig accepts this device in up to 60 seconds. If ARIS does not reconnect by itself, connect again after a minute.
After that the device works with the rig with no internet, dark sites included: the rig recognises the device by itself. The pairing lasts a year, and renews itself while the rig is online and you keep using the device.
If ARIS says ARIS cannot pair this device with the rig. Sign in with the account that claimed this rig., the device is signed out, is signed in with a different account, or had no internet when it tried. Sign in with the rig owner’s account, check the internet connection, and connect again.
Sign in from the rig’s own address
Section titled “Sign in from the rig’s own address”Every rig serves the ARIS app at its own address, for example http://aris-pi-ai.local:8080. Google and Apple sign-in work only on pages at ARIS’s own web addresses, not at your rig’s address. So on the rig’s page the sign-in sheet offers Continue with Google or Apple, which signs you in with a code instead.
-
Tap Continue with Google or Apple. A new tab opens at
arisastro.com/link, and the rig’s page shows an 8-character code. If no tab opens, go toarisastro.com/linkon any device and type that code. -
On that page, sign in with Google or Apple, and enter the code if it asks. Check that the rig’s name and address are yours, then tap Yes, sign in.
-
Go back to the rig’s page. It shows the account it is now signed in as. Tap That’s me — continue. If it is not your account, tap That isn’t me — sign out.
The code lasts five minutes and works once. If it runs out, the rig’s page says That code expired. Try again. Tap Continue with Google or Apple again for a new code.
Email and password sign-in works directly on the rig’s page, with no code.
